CRYPTOCORYNE APONEGETIFOLIA
Cryptocoryne aponogetifolia is a striking, large-growing Cryptocoryne species native to the Philippines. Known for its long, textured, bright green leaves, this plant makes an excellent background specimen in medium to large aquariums. Under proper conditions, leaves can reach 12–24 inches in length, creating a lush, natural appearance that resembles underwater jungle foliage.
Despite its impressive size, Cryptocoryne aponogetifolia is relatively easy to care for once established. Like many Cryptocorynes, it may experience “Crypt melt” when first introduced to a new aquarium, but healthy roots typically produce new growth within a few weeks.
Care Instructions:
Light: Low to moderate lighting
CO2: Not required but beneficial for faster growth and larger leaves
Growth Rate: Moderate
Placement: Background
Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)
pH: 6.0–7.8
Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water
Propagation: Produces runners that develop into new plants
Care Tips:
• Plant the roots while keeping the crown above the substrate.
• Thrives in nutrient-rich substrates but can also be grown with root tabs.
• Avoid frequently moving the plant once established.
• Expect larger leaves and more vigorous growth in stable, mature aquariums.
• Suitable for community aquariums and peaceful fish species.
With its elegant, flowing foliage and hardy nature, Cryptocoryne aponogetifolia is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to create a lush, natural aquascape with a dramatic background plant.
