Caridina shrimp are more delicate and specialized than Neocaridina, prized for their striking patterns and colors (Crystal, Taiwan Bee, Fancy Tigers, etc.). They’re best suited for hobbyists who can maintain stable, precise water conditions.
CARE BASICS
• Tank Size: 10+ gallons recommended
• Temperature: 64–74°F (cooler is better)
• pH: 5.5–6.5
• GH: 4–6 | KH: 0–1
• Water Type: RO/DI water remineralized specifically for Caridina
DIET
• Biofilm and high-quality shrimp foods
• Occasional protein and mineral supplements
• Feed lightly to avoid water quality issues
TANK SETUP
• Active substrate (ADA Amazonia, Stratum, etc.)
• Heavily planted with mosses and slow growers
• Sponge filtration only, low flow
• Mature, well-established tanks are critical
BREEDING
• Moderate difficulty compared to Neos
• Stable parameters are essential for successful molts and egg survival
• Females carry eggs ~3–4 weeks
