Anubias Chili Jalapeño 🌶️
Description and Care
Anubias ‘Chili Jalapeño’ is a rare, compact Anubias variety known for its small, slightly elongated leaves with deep green to reddish tones. Under stronger lighting, it can develop warm red or bronze hues, giving it a unique look that stands out in aquascapes. It remains very small, making it ideal for nano tanks, foreground placement, or attaching to driftwood and rocks. It is a slow-growing plant that is highly durable and beginner-friendly.
Care requirements are simple. It thrives in low to moderate lighting, though slightly higher light will enhance its coloration. Too much light without proper balance can lead to algae on the leaves. CO2 is not required, but it will improve growth rate, leaf density, and coloration. It adapts well to a wide range of water conditions, with a recommended temperature of 72–82°F and a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. Moderate water flow is ideal to help keep the leaves clean and prevent algae buildup.
When planting, do not bury the rhizome, as this will cause rot. Instead, attach the plant to wood or rock using aquarium-safe glue or thread, or wedge it into crevices. It works best as a foreground or midground accent and is especially effective for adding detail to hardscape.
Maintenance is minimal due to its slow growth. Trim older or damaged leaves at the base as needed. Common issues include algae forming on leaves from excessive light or poor flow, and rhizome rot if planted incorrectly. If the plant is not showing red tones, slightly increasing light or adding CO2 can help enhance coloration.
