For beginners trying to grow a carpeting plant for the first time, Micro Sword is a great foreground plant. It produces a wild grass-like effect when planted densely in groups near the front of an aquarium, which really creates the image of a natural environment.

This plant spreads runners out across the substrate as it grows. An underwater lawn of green will be created by high light and CO2 keeping the growth short and compact. Like other foreground plants, propagation is straightforward. Simply remove chunks of the horizontal branches and replant the removed clusters.
