Balansae plant, also known as crypt balansae
Both novice and seasoned aquarium hobbyists favor balansae plants. This specific crypt makes an aquascape serene because its dark or bright green reed-like leaves gently sway in the water, providing fish with nice hiding places to play in. Long, thin leaves are produced by the plant's short stems, which contrast beautifully with hardscape components. This species is native to Southern Thailand, where it lives in swiftly moving rivers and streams with a lot of limestone. In an environment that is abundant in nitrate, phosphate, iron, CO2, and calcium, balansae plants flourish. It is extremely advised to take a calcium supplement since without it, the plant's leaves may twist and become malformed.
Balansae plants require moderate to strong illumination. At least 2-3 watts/gallon of lighting are required to produce the balansae plant's appealing puckering or ruffled leaf look. Additionally, bright illumination may give the leaves a bronze colour. When grown submerged, mature plants with lots of light may eventually produce blooms. But submerged growth is considerably easier for this plant. All crypt plants detest changes in water conditions and will "crypt melt" under extreme conditions. The plant's leaves start to decay and essentially disappear. You can remove any rot and try to stabilize the water if this process starts. When first introduced to a new tank, crypts frequently melt, but once they have adjusted, they should start to grow again.
Balansae plants reproduce by sending forth runners. Balansae plants can spread swiftly in a mature, robust stand, therefore it may be a good idea to cut their runners from time to time. Simply tuck the runners into the substrate if you want to replant.
